How to get on Google Maps without a storefront or showing your address

By Richemont Solutions. Published October 2, 2026.

The short answerYou can put a business on Google Maps without a storefront. Create a Google Business Profile, say you serve customers at their location, hide your address, and list the areas you work in. Google decides what's allowed, so check its current rules before you start.

Who this is for

Electricians, plumbers, pool techs, painters, handymen, and anyone else who drives to the customer. Google calls this a service-area business. You don't need a shop, and if you work from home you don't have to publish your home address.

The steps

Google changes the wording of its screens now and then, so use these as a map, not a script.

  • Search for your business name on Google Maps first. A listing may already exist, and claiming it is better than making a second one.
  • Go to the Google Business Profile page and choose to add your business. Use the name you use on your truck, your invoices, and your website. Don't add keywords to the name.
  • Pick the category that matches your main job. Add others for what else you do.
  • When it asks if you have a location customers can visit, say no, and say that you serve customers at their location.
  • Add the cities you serve. Google's help pages describe a limit on how many areas you can list and how far from your base they can be, so list the places you really go to.
  • Add your phone number, hours, services, and a few photos of real jobs.
  • Verify the profile. Google picks the method (a code by phone, text, email, or a short video), and you can't choose it.

What to avoid

Don't use a virtual office, a mailbox store, or a friend's address. Google's guidelines don't allow addresses where you can't be reached and don't really operate, and a profile that breaks them can be suspended. Don't put a city or a service in the business name either.

Keeping it working

A profile that's verified and then left alone goes stale. Hours change, holidays come, reviews arrive and sit unanswered. Posting photos and replying to reviews is what keeps it looking like a business that's open.

If you'd rather hand it off, our Google Business Profile cleanup is $250 one time, and upkeep is $150 a month. Either way the profile is under your business, and we're added as a manager you can remove with one click.

Questions

Quick answers

Can I hide my home address on Google Maps?

Yes, if you serve customers at their location. You choose to hide the address and list service areas instead. Google can ask you to verify with your real address first, and it doesn't show it to the public.

Do I need a website to be on Google Maps?

No, but a site helps. Google and customers both use it to check what you do and where you work.

How long does verification take?

It varies, and Google controls it. Some profiles verify the same day and some take longer or need a second try.

Can I show up in cities I don't have an address in?

You can list them as service areas. That tells Google where you work. It doesn't guarantee you'll appear in every search there.
